River Sand

Sand the most important component for the construction industry in India has reached a standstill. Due to the persistent shortage of sand, ready to mix concrete production units in and around the city have closed temporarily.

It has now become mandatory for the gram panchayat of the concerned area to approve the auction of sand. Out of the existing 4500 sand spots available at large across the state, only a few 1300 have been cleared for auction. Moreover due to the shortage the government has also planned to increase the royalty rate by Rs 100 more per brass.

The shortage of sand has had a drastic effect on the construction industry and has suffered a major setback. From a daily sand demand of 600-1,000 trucks currently there are hardly three to 10 trucks that are now coming into the city each day and that are being substituted at a rate much higher than the earlier Rs 2,500 per truck of 2.5 brass (1 brass is equal to 100 cubic feet of sand), have surged to Rs 12,000 per truck. Above all, it is being sourced from Gujarat.
